gap Personnel are recruiting for a Toolmaker to join our manufacturing and engineering client in Exeter The Toolmaker will support the manufacturing departments on a daily basis and work with the engineering department on current projects. The role will involve the manufacturing of small tools, jigs and fixtures, as well as maintenance and modifications. Key Responsibilities: • assembling, fitting and repairing and maintain press tools • following engineering drawings or reference CAD models • competent in use of all hand tools • using machinery such as lathes, presses, milling machines and grinders to cut and shape the tools • using 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM) • using NC and CNC milling machines • using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, gauges and Vernier calipers to check the tool’s dimensions • monitoring the tools used on the manufacturing line to ensure efficient run rates and identify necessary repairs or possible improvements • attending machine breakdowns to identify the root cause and solve the problem • assisting with tool maintenance • compiling reports • assist with new die development • design and manufacture small mould tools, jigs and fixtures • Attention to detail • Accuracy • Good verbal and written communication skills • The ability to work independently and as part of a team • Excellent math’s and IT skills: • Be actively involved in continuous improvement initiatives and providing input using your expert knowledge. Requirements: • 4-year recognized toolmaking apprenticeship plus additional 5-yrs experience • ONC / HNC In Mechanical Engineering • CAD / CAM Training • CNC / NC Machining Training • Ability to perform well under time / budget pressure • Competent at detailed and routine tasks Hours/Salary: full time position which attracts a shift rotation (6am – 2pm / 2pm – 10pm). Up to £28,300 per annum, plus shift allowance
