Our client is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and driven individual to join our CNC Team. The role: The Machinist/Setter Operator reports to the CNC Production Manager and he/she will be expected to set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines as well as handling, loading and setting fixture plates and support jigs onto 3-axis and 4-axis machines in a one-off or low batch machining environment. The successful candidate MUST be able to: . Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines. . Work to tight machining tolerances and thoroughly check his/her own work. . Use manual measuring equipment, e.g. micrometers, verniers, thread gauges. . Perform in process batch inspection of CNC machined parts, particularly critical / tied tolerances. . Work to 2D drawings and job specifications with the minimum of supervision, after training. . Adhere to the day-to-day maintenance protocols, i.e. ensuring all machinery & tooling is left in a clean, serviceable condition. . Monitor the condition and stock levels of tooling in your area, reporting any shortages or actions needed. In addition, in-house training will be provided on operating CNC machines with Heidenhein and Mazatrol controllers; accessing program files; reviewing and posting programs to the CNC machines; proving out and running supplied programs. Experience / Qualifications . Ideally time-served apprentice / engineer in mechanical engineering . Previous experience in a machining environment . Working on own initiative in a machine shop environment . Ability to read and interpret 2D machining drawings, including tolerances and surface finish specifications . Experience in hand finishing of metal components & bench fitting, hand-tapping, deburring etc. . Good understanding of manufacturing processes Qualities . Excellent timekeeping and reliability . Confident team player . Excellent communication skills . Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines This position is based at our Gloucester site. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary. The standard hours of work are 7 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday. This equates to a 37½-hour week.
